REDEMPTION is about to release their newest, 5th studio album release, "This Mortal Coil", on September 26th, 2011 in Europe and October 11th, 2011 in North America via InsideOutMusic. Consequently, the band is now launching a first promotional song sample for the release by making the track "Noonday Devil" available for streaming ("Like" required!) via their official Facebook profile: http://www.facebook.com/RedemptionBand.

REDEMPTION's Nick van Dyk comments on the song "Noonday Devil" as follows:
"The 'Noonday Devil', as a concept, is about doubt. Are my efforts worth it? What's the point of going on in the face of this adversity? Is there any meaning to my struggle or is this just pointless? These whispers of desperation can creep into all of us. As part of 'This Mortal Coil', all of which represents reflections on morality, 'Noonday Devil' is the point at which we decide to dig in and kick this specter of doubt in the teeth. It's one of the most in-your-face songs we've ever done, with musical energy that matches the determination in the lyrics."

14 AUGUST 2011

REDEMPTION, the US progressive metal band featuring in its ranks guitarist/songwriter Nick van Dyk and legendary Fates Warning vocalist Ray Alder, proudly announces that their newest, 5th studio album release and follow-up to the highly successful "Snowfall On Judgment Day" in 2009, will be entitled "This Mortal Coil" and is to be released on September 26th, 2011 in Europe and October 11th, 2011 in North America via InsideOutMusic.

REDEMPTION recorded and mixed "This Mortal Coil" with legendary producer Neil Kernon (Queensryche, Nevermore, Kansas, etc.). The album's artwork, which makes its first appearance with this press release, was created by acclaimed artist and longtime band collaborator Travis Smith (Opeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Nevermore, etc).

REDEMPTION's Nick van Dyk checked in commenting on the album as follows:
"I'm extremely pleased to announce that work on ‘This Mortal Coil' has been completed. It was a pleasure to work with Neil Kernon during the production, although I dare say we had more challenges and curve-balls in this process than either of us is accustomed to. Nonetheless we overcame everything in our path, from internet failures to lightning strikes, and since one of the themes of this CD is essentially overcoming adversity, the production process served as a bit of a metaphor for the whole concept!"

"The new CD continues our creative effort to combine heaviness with melody -- fusing those disparate elements has always been part of REDEMPTION's sound, along with an element that I have called emotional urgency, which we've maintained here. All in all, it sounds like REDEMPTION -- although importantly I think it's by far our best-sounding record, owing to the work of Neil Kernon and the mastering of Alan Douches."

And Van Dyk adds regarding the artwork:
"We have worked once again with the incredibly talented Travis Smith on our art; we work very well together and he has a proven knack for bringing my concepts to life visually."

Most recently, REDEMPTION have announced a string of European concerts to support the release of "This Mortal Coil" in early October 2011, including a headlining slot at this year's edition of the "ProgPower Europe" festival. The complete list of confirmed shows is as follows:

09 FEBRUARY 2011

Hello everyone. Time for a long overdue update on a few things! So sit down with this when you've got a few minutes .... it's an extensive update!

First off, we are hard at work in pre-production for our upcoming fifth studio CD, which carries the working title of This Mortal Coil.

The band was really happy with Snowfall on Judgment Day and so when it came time to put together new material, with our own expectations for ourselves always on the rise, we gave a lot of thought to how to deliver the goods and step up our game yet again.

We have worked well with some excellent producers in the past and they have put their mark on our sound, especially Tommy Newton with whom we did two records and who we tried to involve early enough in the production process to help shape the records. But even with Tommy, most of the involvement came after we were finished with songs.

For this record, I thought we could bring in an outside producer very early on. Someone to help shape the music and raise the bar for us, challenging our ideas and getting the best from the band. I knew I wanted somebody with a depth of experience that reflected the many things Redemption pursues in its music: melodic but heavy; intricate and complex when called for, but accessible; a bit of virtuosity but always in the service of the song. This is a tall order, when you think about it. We would need a producer, ideally, who had extensive experience in pop music but also maybe jazz fusion, had worked with somebody like Kansas, had worked with somebody like Nevermore, had extensive experience in heavy technical music (like, say, Spiral Architect or even somebody like Nile) and hopefully also had particular domain expertise in prog metal (maybe someone like Queensryche).

Fortunately, such a producer exists! I am delighted to announce that we will be working on This Mortal Coil with Neil Kernon, whose extensive CV includes all of those bands. He has immense experience in song craft, creating compelling intricate music across a variety of genres. It's a great fit for what we are looking for right now. He is, simply put, a legendary producer and we are really fired up to work with him.

Neil and I have known each other socially for several years, and actually about three years ago he called me and asked if Redemption would be interested in creating a "Rage for Order for the next century." Uh, YES, we would! However, at that time, we were already down the road withSnowfall on Judgment Day so I explained that we would have to table the conversation until the next record. And then, of course, I had to take a little time off for my medical adventure (I'll provide an update on this below ... things look good, though).

So when the time came to consider how to make sure our next CD is our best (a goal we will always have!) I thought immediately back to that conversation. And as Neil and I spoke about the possibilities, it became obvious to us both that this could be a very special opportunity to make a really great CD. So we are really going to dig into pre-production together beginning just a few weeks from now and needless to say, I'm really looking forward to it!

I've been working on the basic structure of the songs for a couple of months now, and the band is very pleased with how things are coming together. We are taking more time to explore different drum parts than we have done before, and working out bass and drum parts together in a more organic way than we have had the luxury of doing in the past.

So the songs are in a bit of flux now, but at this point it looks like we will have ten or eleven tracks, with a fair amount of compositional diversity between them but all having the strong melody, the aggressive riffing and the sense of emotional and musical urgency that we hope is core to all of Redemption's music. Some of the working titles include Noonday Devil, No Tickets to the Funeral, Rain in my Soul, Focus, Dreams from the Pit, Path of the Tornado, Blink of an Eye, Perfect, and Departure of the Pale Horse. This is not a rock opera but the songs are tied together, loosely, by the theme of confronting our mortality. You can imagine, given my medical adventure, that what I experienced would make its way into my songwriting.

After pre-production, we'll get to tracking and mixing and all that good stuff. We are shooting for a fall release date, assuming all goes well. We're also planning some pretty extensive and cool bonus materials, which will be fun to do and which we think our fans will really enjoy.

We also have some tentative plans right now to play out a bit more extensively than we did on the last CD in support of the record, and as things firm up I'll be sure to let you know.

Finally, for those of you interested in the latest on my health, I continue to follow the very aggressive protocol of my brilliant doctor, Dr. Bart Barlogie, who is quite literally saving the lives of people diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma – he's the only doctor in the world who believes it can be cured. As of now, I remain in complete remission and have been there for around fifteen months. If I make it thirty six months, Bart's data shows I am almost certainly cured. So I continue to take three nasty meds to (hopefully) ensure I remain in remission. The odds at this point are very much in my favor. Incidentally, I have a different blood cancer than what Nergal of Behemoth is battling, but a small part of the aggressive protocol I underwent consisted of two blood stem cell transplants that Nergal recently underwent.

So that's it: healthy, working on new music with a great producer, and ready to deliver the goods! (And on that note, by the way, Neil has also worked with Judas Priest – haha).

Thanks, as always, for your interest and support!

Best,
Nick van Dyk, Redemption

...and so work begins on our fifth album!

Hello folks, and sorry for the long silence from us. It's been a very busy summer for us away from Redemption, particularly for Ray who as most of you surely know did a reunion tour with the Parallels lineup of Fates Warning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that fantastic release.

I (Nick) remain in complete remission with no trace of the disease that I announced publicly about a year ago. I remain on three powerful medications to ensure that the cancer does not return. Of the five original active lesions in my bones, none are active for cancer and one of them has resolved (i.e. been completely repaired with new bone). The other four are in the process of being repaired and that is the next big milestone. Patience is required but I believe they will get there. If that happens, it is a good sign that I am well down the road to being cured (according to the very aggressive doctor to whom I entrust my care). However I must remain on these medicines for two more years. They have many unpleasant side effects but I am resolved to stick with the program and beat "incurable" blood cancer. Thank you all very much for your prayers, positive vibes and words of support -- they mean a lot.

And so life continues, and with it, a new Redemption CD in the works! We are in the early pre-production stages at this point, still composing and arranging. It's too early to say too much, but I can share that the arrangements vary from short (for us!) hard-hitting songs to at least one and possibly two more sprawling ideas, and that a few of the working titles at this point are Noonday Devil, Dreams from the Pit and Rain in my Soul.

We'll have more to post in the coming weeks and months, and hopefully some great new music for you in 2011!

As always, thank you for your support and interest!

Best,
Nick van Dyk, Redemption

06 APRIL 2010

Dear friends:

I am sorry to say that we are faced with the reality of having to cancel Redemption's intended European shows the summer.

Part of our unique sound comes from our vocalist, Ray Alder of Fates Warning. As a long-time fan of Fates myself, I have always maintained that Redemption would not interfere with Ray's commitment to Fates, and we have worked very carefully and diligently since Ray joined Redemption in 2005 to ensure that both bands would be able to record and perform without conflict.

We intended to play several shows in several countries this summer in support of our new CD, Snowfall on Judgment Day. Our management and local promoters in Europe worked hard to line up some great shows that we were very much looking forward to playing. Originally, there was no conflict, even when Fates announced some special shows and festivals to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their fantastic Parallels CD.

However, some additional shows were then added on Fates' schedule. We intended to carry on and simply reschedule some of our dates, shortening the tour to ensure that there would not be a conflict. Again, our management and local promoters worked hard to ensure we'd be able to do this. It became economically more difficult, but Redemption was prepared to accept that since we really wanted to play for our fans in Europe. As of a week ago, we still intended to move forward.

However, after considering it, Ray determine that the schedule -- which would have involved him performing headline sets with us, then taking a very long flight, having only a brief time to recover before performing headline sets with Fates, then having to fly back to Europe and perform again -- is simply too much to take on. There's just no way to do it while performing at the level that I know Ray wants to.

So I'm left with the unfortunate reality that we're not going to be able to play Europe this summer. Please understand we've done everything we can to find a solution -- but none were available to us. We look forward to coming to Europe at another time, and thank you for your interest and support.
Nick van Dyk, Redemption

REDEMPTION To Release Snowfall On Judgment Day On Oct. 6th Throughout North America - New Track Posted Online

REDEMPTION is one of the leading progressive metal bands in the world today, a fact which is further solidified with the release of their much anticipated fourth full-length release, Snowfall On Judgment Day, which is now set for an Oct. 6th North American release via Inside Out Music. REDEMPTION's combination of heaviness, irresistible melodies and emotional urgency has created a unique and resonant voice for this band that sets them apart from the many clones in the genre, and which has gained them the attention of fans, critics and musicians worldwide.

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2000 by guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features legendary progressive metal vocalist Ray Alder of Fates Warning, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel), the phenomenal rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and Sean Andrews (bass) and the keyboard talents of Greg Hosharian. Head over now to www.myspace.com/thebandredemption or http://www.redemptionweb.com/ to check out the epic new track, "Black and White World."

Nicolas van Dyk further comments: "We're very excited for the release of our fourth CD. We've continued to push the envelope of our unique combination of aggression and melody and the result is our heaviest and also our most melodic CD to date. There's a healthy variety in the songwriting, ranging from very heavy tracks to more ‘proggy' songs, all of which share the melodic focus and emotional urgency that make our signature sound. We've had the opportunity to play a lot more together prior to the recording of Snowfall and I think the band is both organic sounding and tighter than ever. It's a record we're really proud of and we're glad to get it in the hands of our fans."

In the summer of 2007, the band was selected by the definitive Progressive Metal band, Dream Theater, as direct support for the entirety of Dream Theater's U.S. tour. After performing 26 shows for tens of thousands of fans, REDEMPTION capped off this tour with a performance at the 8th annual ProgPower festival in Atlanta. This monumental performance is now available for all to see in the Frozen in the Moment - Live in Atlanta DVD release (2009, Inside Out Music). Recorded at the ProgPower USA festival in 2007 the DVD includes a 12 minute video and photo tour diary set to our unreleased instrumental from the Dream Theater songwriting contest that the band wrote back in 2003, as well as other clips and outtakes.

Throughout spring 2009 the band finalized Snowfall On Judgment Day, which was mixed by well-known producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jorn Lande, Circus Maximus). The album features a more mature songwriting than ever before and shows the band taking several steps beyond the quality of their previous output, and standing out from the rest of the crowd in the progressive metal scene with their unique brand of heavy, melodic and emotionally powerful music. The legendary James Labrie (Dream Theater) also performs a duet guest vocal spot on the song "Another Day Dies."

REDEMPTION has clearly delivered their best album to date – an album that will stand as a watermark for progressive metal for years to come.

Official Press Release

29 JUNE 2009

Our new website is up and running. As you can see here, the them is very simplistic, which represents the cover artwork of the upcoming REDEMPTION album, "Snowfall On Judgment Day" - the artwork was once again created by Travis Smith, and in our opinion it's just stunning!
The new album will be released September 28th in Europe and on September 29th in USA/North America through Inside Out Music.
We have a new promotional video ready for the album release. Check it out on Youtube at this link. The video includes soundclips from all songs on the upcoming album.

Hello folks. Been a while since an update...hopefully for those interested the DVD has been a good means of tiding you over, but we will have new music out in the next few months and I can share some details at this time.
Redemption's fourth CD, Snowfall on Judgment Day, is expected to be released this summer worldwide through Inside Out. The album is currently being mixed and mastered by our good and talented friend Tommy Newton, who produced our last two CDs and whose work also includes Conception, Helloween, UFO and others, at Area 51 Studios in Celle, Germany. Artwork will once again be by our creative visual partner Travis Smith.
Musically, we have continued to grow and expand on the basic Redemption formula. We have continued to push the envelope of heaviness combined with strong melody and emotional urgency in the music and I think the collection of songs is very strong, with some very in-your-face tunes that are among the heaviest in prog metal to some quieter, more elaborate moments, with technical thrown in where it belongs.
The tentative track listing is:
Peel
Walls
Leviathan Rising
Black and White World
Unformed
Keep Breathing
Another Day Dies
What Will You Say
Fistful of Sand
Love Kills Us All / Life in One Day
I am particular excited to report that Another Day Dies is a duet between Ray Alder and a very special guest vocalist, James LaBrie of Dream Theater!
Once a firm release date is set, I'll provide another update. We're really looking forward to getting new music in your hands.
Thanks again for your interest and support!
Nick van Dyk, Redemption

Hello friends and fans!
First of all, Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Now then...we received well over 100 entries for naming the CD, and the winner is a three-way tie.
Congratulations to Elia Anie, Josh Rundquist and Todd Wimer, all of whom suggested something very close to what we went with.
Redemption's live DVD will be titled Frozen in the Moment: Live in Atlanta.
It will be released on Inside Out and the release dates are:
Germany, Austria and Switzerland: February 27, 2009
Rest of Europe: March 2, 2009
North America: March 3, 2009
The track listing consists of:
Threads
Bleed Me Dry
Nocturnal
Memory
The Suffocating Silence
Release
Fall On You
Sapphire
The Death of Faith & Reason
In addition, there will be a 12 minute video and photo tour diary set to our unreleased instrumental from the Dream Theater songwriting contest that we wrote back in 2003 or so.
Lastly, there will be some funny outtakes which will be embarrassing to us and pretty damn funny to all of you.
We'll be hopefully making over this page in the next few days and including a video for one of the songs.
Congratulations to our three winners -- we'll be contacting you to ensure you can get your autographed copy shortly after they are released. And thanks to everybody who participated -- there were a lot of great ideas from our fans!
More news to come regarding new music in 2009.
Again, happy holidays and thanks as always for your interest and support.
All the best,
Redemption

Hello friends.
It has been a long several months of negotiating with our label but we finally have news.
Redemption's live DVD will be released early next year. It was filmed in 5-camera hi-definition at the Progpower festival in Atlanta. It will be released as a DVD with a bonus live CD of the performance.
Runtime for the concert will be approximately 67 minutes. In addition, the DVD will contain a bonus tour diary / slideshow of our tour with Dream Theater, with our unreleased instrumental based on Dream Theater's Stream of Consciousness that we recorded before Ray joined the band. It was this instrumental that caught the attention of Dream Theater, so we thought it would be fun to include it on a DVD that commemorates our first tour with them.
Additional bonus materials will be included as well.
We also have a winner in the contest to name our DVD...over the over 100 entries we received, four chose the same name. We'll announce that name, and the winners (who will receive autographed copies of the DVD) in the next couple of weeks.
Lastly, we are hard at work writing material for Redemption's fourth CD and should have new music out before next summer. There will be between 8 and 10 tracks, and they range from heavy to epic, with the signature Redemption sense of musical urgency to them. We're very excited to start recording in the next several weeks.
Thank you very much for your continued interest and support through this extended period of silence...it's been frustrating for us as well, but we look forward to putting this delay behind us and getting back to making music for you.
All the best,
Redemption

Our new video for "Bleed Me Dry" is up at youtube.com for you all to check out.
The video was directed by Marcos Efron, an extremely talented up-and-coming director known for his with on videos (including one for the artist JEWEL) and short films, with Chris Johnson as director of photography.
The video mixes stylized shots of the band performing (like the silhouette of Bernie shown below) with conceptual footage of a woman attempting to break free of her bonds and escape a prison-like existence.

Three weeks from yesterday we play our first show in support of DREAM THEATER on this summer's tour, and we are in the middle of rehearsals which are going very well indeed! Also, yesterday we shot the band portions of our upcoming video for 'Bleed Me Dry' with the director Marcos Efron, who has done videos for a number of established and new artists and is making waves in the short firms circuit.
We're doing the conceptual part of the video next weekend, and look forward to getting it up for you all to see as soon as possible.
Lastly, we will be having an open rehearsal somewhere in Los Angeles a few days before the first show of the tour...more information as the date draws near.

Dates are still being finalized, but the following shows have been announced thus far:
Fri July 27th - Gibson Amphitheater - Los Angeles, CA
Mon July 30th - E Center - Salt Lake City, UT
Tues July 31st - Paramount Theater - Denver, CO
Tues Aug 7th - Riverside Theater - Milwaukee, WI
Thurs Aug 9th - State Theater - Minneapolis, MN
Fri Aug 10th - Rosemont Theater - Chicago, IL
Sat Aug 11th - Tower City Amphitheater - Cleveland, OH
Tues Aug 21st - Bank Of America Pavillion - Boston, MA
For those of you aware of my rather demanding "day job," I personally will be making as many of these shows as possible (hopefully the significant majority of them). For the dates where I am unable to make it, we will be fortunate to have the talents of Sean Entrikin of Prymary taking my place. The rest of the band will be there at all dates.
We'll see you out on the road!!

Redemption is very proud to announce at this time that we have signed a worldwide deal with InsideOut Music. Details of that relationship can be found here. Both band and label are looking forward to the cooperation, starting with the release of our new album "The Origins Of Ruin", and I'm very excited by the opportunity that InsideOut will give us to bring our music to more people worldwide. At the same time, I want to thank the labels with whom we have previously worked for the excellent job they have done in making "The Fullness of Time" the success that it was -- Replica Records in France, Massacre Records throughout Europe and especially Ken Golden of The Laser's Edge/Sensory Records. Ken placed his faith in us very early on with the release of our self-titled debut, and without his support none of this would have been possible. I have nothing but positive things to say about Ken and the job he and his team have done, and we wish him and Sensory every continued success, even as we look forward to working with Inside Out in building on what we have accomplished to date.
